The Rain Came Pouring Down. Abuela Rosa Reached for the Softest Blanket.
Rain is coming down hard outside the open door, puddling on the patio and darkening the fence, but inside, Abuela Rosa has everything under control. She's cradling Chispa in a thick cream-colored knit blanket, folding the edges snugly around the little cat until only a wrinkled grey face and two big ears peek out. Chispa's eyes are half closed, and she looks thoroughly content to be bundled up like a burrito. By the door, a blue raincoat hangs on a hook, a pair of black rubber boots stands on the tile, and a basket of leashes and towels waits beside a potted plant.
Of all cats, a Sphynx is probably the one most likely to appreciate this treatment. With no coat to trap warmth or shed water, a hairless cat that gets damp can chill quickly, so drying them gently and wrapping them in something soft is a kind move. In general, it's wise to keep Sphynx cats out of cold, wet weather altogether and provide warm resting spots indoors, such as fleece blankets, covered beds, or a sunny window perch. Their skin can also get dry or irritated with weather changes, so if you notice redness or flaking, talk to your vet about gentle care options.
The storm can take its time. Chispa has found the warmest spot in the house, and she isn't planning to leave Rosa's arms anytime soon.
