The Yard Turned White Overnight. Abuela Rosa Had to Show Mango Right Away.
Outside the tall window, the whole neighborhood has gone white. Snow blankets the yard, frosts the bare trees, and keeps falling in soft, steady flakes. Inside, Abuela Rosa, in a light blue sweater and her flowered apron, has scooped up Mango and hoisted him to the glass. He is a hefty armful, back legs dangling, front paws tucked against her hands, eyes fixed on the drifting flakes. She is grinning at him rather than the view, clearly enjoying his reaction more than the weather.
Many cats find a window to be the best entertainment in the house. Moving snowflakes, birds, and leaves give their eyes something to track, which keeps an indoor cat mentally busy. A sturdy window perch or a cleared sill with a folded towel lets a cat enjoy the show on its own. When picking up a larger cat, support matters: one hand under the chest and one under the hindquarters keeps the cat feeling secure and protects its back. In cold months, also check that the windowsill is not icy or drafty, and offer a warm bed nearby for afterward.
Mango may decide snow is fascinating, or he may decide it is someone else's problem. Either way, he is warm, he is held, and he has front-row seats. Winter looks a lot friendlier from the cozy side of the glass.
