Grandpa Gus Climbed Into the Old Truck. Pudding Insisted on the Passenger Seat.
Grandpa Gus is settled in the driver's seat of a battered old truck, glasses perched on his nose and his plaid shirt rolled at the cuffs, smiling toward his passenger. Pudding sits tall on the worn seat with his long cream fur spilling around him, gazing out the side window with a distant and slightly regal look. Through the windshield and the open door, a backyard of plant pots, crates and half-finished projects crowds into view. Dust motes drift in the light from the windshield, and the old seat has clearly cradled many passengers before this one.
A cat that likes riding in a truck is the exception, not the rule. Most cats feel safest in a carrier that is secured with a seatbelt or wedged so it cannot slide, and a loose cat can distract the driver or end up underfoot. Pudding is a Persian, and flat-faced breeds can overheat more easily than other cats, so never leave one in a parked car and keep the cabin cool. For any trip, bring water and a familiar blanket, and ask your vet about anxiety or motion sickness if it is a problem.
This looks like a spot where the truck is parked and the engine is off, and that suits both of them. Gus has a seat, a cat and nowhere pressing to be. Pudding takes in the view with the calm of a very experienced traveler.
