Odessa Held Out an Ice Cream Cone. Onyx Looked Straight Up at It.
A tall vanilla cone is held out between them, and the question is clear. Grandma Odessa looks down with a gentle smile, her silver hair and small gold earring glowing in the warm light. Onyx has lifted his dark face toward the cone, big ears out to the sides, golden eyes wide and nose just a little forward. A houseplant and a cream-colored wall appear behind them, and the room has the lazy quiet of a hot afternoon. It is a moment of pure temptation. The cone is already starting to soften at the edges.
As tempting as it is to share, ice cream is not a good treat for cats. Many cats cannot digest milk sugars well, and dairy can upset their stomachs. Ice cream also has a lot of sugar, and some flavors, such as chocolate, contain ingredients that are harmful to pets. If your cat is curious, offer him something made for cats instead, like a tiny lick-able treat or a spoonful of his regular wet food. Devon Rex cats are often enthusiastic eaters and bold about asking, so a firm routine helps. A bowl of cool, fresh water is the best way to beat the heat. If he eats something unusual, talk to your vet.
Odessa will eat her cone and Onyx will wait politely. The two of them can cool off together.
