Odessa's Knitting Was Going Well Until Onyx Joined the Project

A half-finished piece of cream knitting hangs from Grandma Odessa's needles, and a great many loose strands of yarn are looped across her lap. She sits in a comfortable armchair in a gray cardigan and teal top, glasses on, her attention gentle and focused. Nestled in the middle of the tangle, Onyx lies with his dark fur netted in white thread, looking quite pleased about it. A cup of tea, a basket of yarn balls and a patterned blanket complete the cozy corner behind them. Onyx seems to think the whole thing is a very successful hunt.

Yarn is a classic cat toy, but it is not a safe one. If a cat swallows string, yarn or thread, it can wrap around the intestines and become a medical emergency. Keep your knitting in a closed basket, put tools away when you take a break and never leave a cat unsupervised with a ball of yarn. A wand toy or a cat-safe ball is a much better choice. Devon Rex cats are playful and quick with their paws, so they are likely to explore anything that moves. If your cat gets tangled, cut the strands gently rather than pulling them, and call your vet if he swallows any.

Odessa is unbothered. She sits back, smiling, and starts to work the yarn free, one loop at a time.
