Odessa Started Humming in the Kitchen. Onyx Hopped Up for a Better View.
Warm light spills over the kitchen counter, and Grandma Odessa is smiling, one hand lifted as if she were in the middle of a slow turn. She wears an olive cardigan over a blue shirt, and a small lamp, a jar of wooden spoons and a pile of cooking things sit behind her. Below her, Onyx stands on his hind legs with his front paws on the counter, tail curled high and ears pointed at his dancing partner. The whole kitchen has the feel of a small private party, with no music except the one in her head.
Moving to music, even a gentle sway in the kitchen, is a pleasant way for older adults to stay active and happy. A few minutes of dancing can lift the mood and loosen stiff muscles, and it is easy to do at home. For a cat, a kitchen has its own risks, so keep hot stoves, sharp knives and food scraps out of reach. Many cats like to hop on counters to be close to their people, and Devon Rex cats are especially good climbers and jumpers. A sturdy cat tree near the kitchen gives him a better lookout spot. Keep floors clear so no one trips while stepping.
Odessa twirls and Onyx watches. If cats gave scores, this one would surely get a perfect ten.
