Three Hens, One Ragdoll, and Grandpa's Evening Feed Run

AI imageragdollchickensfarm

As the sky darkens and the porch light flickers on, Gus kneels in the yard and scatters golden feed across the dirt. Three hens crowd in, a rusty red one in front, a speckled black-and-white one in the middle, and another chestnut hen on the right, all pecking busily. Juniper the Ragdoll has followed him out and now stands a few steps behind, tail curled low, studying the birds with great seriousness. His plaid shirt and overalls are dusty from the day, and he looks perfectly content.

Mixing cats and chickens works best with patience and good fences. Many cats are curious about birds, and even a friendly cat can startle hens, so it helps to supervise early meetings and keep a calm pace. Chickens do best with a predictable routine, and an evening feeding is a nice way to gather everyone before dark. Remember, too, that anyone handling chickens should wash their hands afterward, since poultry can carry germs that are not good for people or pets to share.

Juniper is learning her place in the barnyard order, which seems to be somewhere between observer and inspector. The hens don't seem too worried about her, and Gus keeps scattering feed with a steady, easy rhythm. It is a small evening job, but it clearly comes with some very good company.
