Grandpa Was Halfway Through the Crossword When Juniper Joined
The breakfast dishes are still on the table, a warm mug of coffee sits at his elbow, and Gus has settled in with the crossword and a pencil. Juniper has hopped up to the next chair and sits tall and straight, ears forward, staring right at the camera as if she has already solved the whole grid. A lamp glows on the kitchen shelf behind them, and a half-eaten apple rests in a bowl nearby.
Puzzles are a lovely way to keep the mind busy, and many older adults enjoy them as part of a daily routine. Pets add something too: a regular companion gives a day structure, with meals, play, and quiet time, and that gentle rhythm is good for people of any age. Cats in particular like to be near their person during a calm activity, so sitting beside a puzzle or a book is a familiar way for them to say they enjoy your company. If your cat likes the table, just keep mugs and pencils away from the edge.
Gus looks like he is on a good streak, and Juniper looks like she is supervising. Whether she contributes a single answer is doubtful, but she certainly adds the most charming expression at the table. It is a slow morning with exactly the right amount of company.
