The Windowsill Is Still the Best Seat in the House for These Two
The evening sky outside has turned deep blue, and a lamp glows in the corner of the room, but the windowsill is still the best seat in the house. A Golden Retriever with a feathery golden coat rests its chin on the worn white sill, eyes half closed, while a small white and brown baby goat with little horns leans its head against the dog's cheek. The paint on the sill is chipped and old, a plaid blanket drapes over a chair, and a houseplant sits beside the lamp in the warm background.
Golden Retrievers are among the friendliest and most gentle dogs around, which is why they so often show up in stories about unlikely animal friendships. Bred to retrieve game softly without damaging it, they tend to have a calm, careful mouth and a patient nature. They thrive on companionship and do best with daily exercise, play and time with their families. Their thick coat sheds year-round and needs regular brushing. Even with such a sweet temperament, supervision is important whenever a large dog spends time with a very young animal, and the goat should always have a way to step away if it wants space.
Night is settling in, and the view from the window is fading fast. Neither of them seems to mind; the best part of this spot was always the company.
