A Husky and a Baby Goat Walked the Fence Line Like Old Pals
Along the weathered fence line, a pair of unlikely walking buddies is making the morning rounds. A black and white Siberian Husky with icy blue eyes trots with its mouth open in a friendly pant, head turned toward its companion, while a small tan and white baby goat steps carefully beside the wooden raised bed, ears out and expression serious. A fence post, a green bucket, fallen leaves and a tangle of garden plants fill the yard around them in soft, early light.
Siberian Huskies were bred to pull sleds over long distances, and they still carry enormous energy, endurance and a love of running. They are often friendly with people but are also known for their strong prey drive and a talent for escaping yards. That combination means time with small animals like goats, chickens or cats needs careful, consistent supervision, and many experienced owners never leave a Husky alone with smaller livestock. Secure, tall fencing and plenty of daily exercise help keep a Husky happy and out of trouble. Their thick double coat sheds heavily, especially in spring and fall.
On this particular morning, though, everything looks calm and companionable. The Husky keeps its pace slow and easy, and the goat matches it step for step. The fence gets its daily inspection, and the little goat gets an escort with very striking eyes.
