A Piglet Snuggled Up Against a Maltese by the Fireplace
A small stone fireplace glows in the corner of a cozy room, and in front of it, a fluffy white Maltese rests her chin on a pink piglet who is curled up against her side. The piglet's eyes are closed, her ears relaxed, and her snout tucked into the soft rug. A lamp, a mug, and a few books sit on the mantel, and a basket of blankets waits nearby. The fire crackles, and the two friends seem to have everything they need. A little ember pops in the grate, and the fire's glow turns the white fur a pale peach.
A fire is a nice place to relax, but it needs safety planning with pets. Keep a guard or screen in front of the fireplace, and never leave animals alone with an open flame. Maltese dogs have long, silky coats that can get hot or catch sparks, so they should rest a safe distance away. A small animal near a heat source needs fresh water and the freedom to move to a cooler spot. Talk to your vet about winter comfort and safety for your pets.
Penny is nestled in as deeply as she can get, and the Maltese has made herself a soft pillow. The fire keeps the room warm. It is a calm, golden end to a long day. Winter feels very far away from here.
