A Cocker Spaniel Puppy Became the Softest Pillow for a Sleeping Pony
On a pale tile floor, a golden Cocker Spaniel puppy lies on his belly with his front paws stretched out and his silky ears falling, while a shaggy pony sleeps with her head lying right between his paws. Her pale mane flops across her closed eyes. Some toys and a pair of jeans sit behind them. The cool floor and the soft light make the whole room feel hushed.
We could call the pony Clover and the puppy Maple. Maple looks alert and proud to be a pillow, and Clover is sleeping so deeply that she does not stir. It is as though the puppy has made himself into a soft little cushion.
Cocker Spaniels are cheerful, affectionate dogs known for their long ears and friendly personalities. Their ears need regular cleaning and drying, and their coats require brushing to stay tangle free. They are gentle with family members and often like to be near people. Tile floors are cool in summer but hard on the joints of puppies, so provide a soft bed or blanket. Ponies sleep both standing and lying down, and a pony that feels safe may nap deeply. If an animal sleeps with another, make sure no one is squashed, and check that both have plenty of space.
Maple stays still and proud, a very good pillow for a very tired friend.
