A Worried Maltese Kept Watch While Kittens Splashed in the Creek
A white Maltese stands on the muddy bank of a shallow creek, his fluffy coat damp at the edges and his dark eyes watching closely. In the water, a small group of kittens splashes around: a ginger one pawing at the surface, a calico stepping through, a gray tabby and a black one close by, and a tiny white one at the front. Fallen leaves float on the ripples. Bright droplets hang in the air, and the water glitters with leaves and light.
We can call the Maltese Cotton. He looks like a very worried babysitter, ready to hurry in at a moment's notice. The kittens, on the other hand, seem to be having the time of their lives. His expression says everything.
Most kittens are curious about water, and shallow puddles and creeks can be irresistible. Still, natural water can hide hazards like currents, sharp rocks, algae and germs, so supervise closely and keep outings short. After a splash, dry kittens thoroughly with a soft towel and keep them warm, since young kittens chill easily. Maltese are small, gentle companion dogs with long silky coats that need regular brushing, and they tend to be protective of their friends. Ask your vet about vaccines and parasite prevention before letting kittens play outside.
Cotton keeps his watch, and the kittens enjoy their splash. It is a funny, tender little scene.
