The Corgi Found a Cardboard Box and Tiptoed Up to Peek Inside
A cardboard box sits on the floor, and a red and white Corgi has found it. He leans over the edge with his big, soft ears falling forward and his nose just above the sleeping heap. In the box, five kittens lie in a tangle: a calico, an orange one, a cream one, a grey tabby, and a black and white one, all with eyes closed. A houseplant, a pair of sneakers, and a pile of knitted blankets are scattered around the room.
Cardboard boxes are popular with cats of all ages because small, enclosed spaces make them feel safe. It is a cheap and effective bed for kittens, as long as it is dry and free of staples and tape. Corgis were bred as herding dogs, and they are curious, smart, and quick to investigate anything new. Let a dog sniff gently, but do not let him poke at sleeping kittens. A vet is a good resource for questions about young kittens.
The Corgi stays quiet, only his nose twitching. He seems to know that this is not the time for excitement. The kittens are in the middle of an important nap, and he does not want to disturb them. After a moment of careful sniffing, he settles on the floor beside the box, on guard. The box is theirs, and he is its watchman.
