The Bulldog Gave Up Half His Bed and Then the Other Half
A white Bulldog has sunk into the middle of a round, shaggy dog bed. His wrinkled face rests low, jowls soft, eyes mellow. Spread across the bed against his chest and paws are five kittens in various stages of sleep: an orange one stretched wide, a grey one tucked under his chin, a black and white one curled, and two cream ones. A laundry basket, a plant, and morning light fill the room beyond.
Bulldogs are known for being affectionate, calm, and laid back, which can make them wonderful companions for small animals. They are also a flat-faced breed, which means they can have trouble breathing in heat and overexert easily, so a cool room matters. Bulldogs enjoy lounging, and a soft bed is a favorite spot. Kittens naturally gather around a warm dog the way they would around their mother. Keep the bed clean and make sure every animal has room to move. Your vet can give advice on caring for dogs and kittens together.
The Bulldog breathes a deep, snuffly sigh. One kitten stirs and then goes back to sleep. They look as if they have been there for hours. The shaggy bed is soft, the morning is slow, and the day has not asked anything of anyone yet. There is no better way to spend it than as the pillow for five little sleepers.
