The Puppy's Bed Got a New Resident and He Didn't Mind
The round, fluffy dog bed is a perfect circle, and the two of them fit inside it like pieces of a puzzle. A blue-grey British Shorthair is curled along the upper edge, round cheeks and copper eyes giving her a calm, slightly grumpy look. Waffles lies tucked under her chin, his golden coat bright against her slate-gray fur, his eyes shut tight. A laundry basket, a pair of slippers and a sunny window brighten the room behind them.
British Shorthairs are known for being easygoing, sturdy cats with dense plush coats. They are typically not as hyper as some breeds, and many are happy to lounge near their people or a friendly pet. Cats are also experts at taking over other animals' beds, and it is not unusual to see one squeeze into a dog bed, especially a soft one. If a cat and dog share a bed, wash the bedding regularly and make sure it is large enough that neither feels crowded. A sleeping spot that is warm, clean and quiet matters a lot.
Waffles has no complaints about the arrangement, and the cat is happy to supply a bit of warmth. It is the kind of nap that probably lasts all afternoon, and nobody wants to be the one to disturb it. The round bed has never looked so full, and it has never looked so happy.
