A Puppy Found Someone to Follow and Followed Closely
Gravel crunches softly as a grey tabby leads the way along a garden path. She walks with her tail low and her ears up, glancing to the side, while Waffles the puppy follows at her heels with his nose down and his paws placed carefully. Behind them, a gray shed, a green watering can, a flowerpot and a hosta plant line the path. The light is warm and the day is calm.
Puppies often follow older animals, and it is one of the main ways they learn. A calm adult cat can model confident, quiet behavior, and a puppy who follows may pick up good habits. At the same time, a puppy should not be allowed to chase or crowd the cat. Gravel paths are fine for short walks, but small stones can get stuck in paws or be swallowed by curious puppies, so check paws afterward and keep an eye on snacking. Grey tabbies are often adaptable, friendly cats that handle new companions with patience.
The tabby seems unbothered by her new shadow, and the puppy looks proud to be allowed along. Wherever this path goes, they are going together. Every few steps she glances back to make sure he is still there, which is probably the sweetest part of the whole walk. She never hurries, and he never lags far behind, which is how the best walks tend to go.
