The Hairless Cat Found the Warmest Bunny in the Whole Barn

On a bed of golden straw, a pink Sphynx and a tan lop-eared bunny are asleep with their faces nearly touching. The cat's wrinkled skin has the soft look of velvet, and her big ears fold slightly as she dozes with her eyes shut. The bunny's thick sandy fur makes a lovely contrast, with long ears draping down and a few pieces of hay clinging to her coat. A knit blanket sits in a heap beside them, and behind it a leafy plant, a laundry basket and a pair of knitted slippers fill out the room.

Sphynx cats have little or no fur, so they lose body heat faster than most cats and seek out warm spots, including bunny-warmed hay. Their skin needs care, too. Without fur to absorb natural oils, they may need occasional baths and protection from sunburn, and a vet can explain the best routine. Because they love warmth, a Sphynx might happily nap next to a fluffy friend. Make sure the bedding is clean and dry, and that any hay is fresh. Rabbits will eat hay as part of their regular diet, so it is perfectly fine for them, but cats do not need it.

The contrast between the bare, rosy cat and the plush bunny makes the picture feel like a pair of mismatched puzzle pieces. They fit together anyway, and the warm afternoon seems to be their reward.
