A Quilt Moved at Sunrise, and Five Ducklings Peeked Out
Under a rumpled white quilt, a brindle and white Boston Terrier rests his chin on the sheet and gives a sleepy sideways look. His big dark eyes are only half open and one ear is tilted. Next to him, five yellow ducklings are tucked snugly under the edge of the blanket in a straight row, their little bills just peeking out. A pillow and a gray throw are piled behind them, and soft light glows through the curtain. It looks like the start of a slow, quiet morning.
Many dogs love sleeping under blankets, since burrowing is an old instinct that makes them feel safe and warm. Boston Terriers, with their short coats, often seek out cozy spots, and their flat faces mean they can have trouble in hot weather, so keep an eye on them. When it comes to ducklings, they should not sleep under heavy blankets, because they could get tangled or overheated, and they need a brooder with controlled heat. If your dog loves to snuggle, give him his own bed or blanket and let him rest away from fragile birds.
The Boston looks as if he has not quite decided what to make of the morning yet. He is happy to stay right where he is, with his tiny feathered friends tucked in beside him. A slow start suits them both.
