A Husky and a Horse Inspected the Vegetable Garden Row by Row
Rows of green lettuce, herbs and tender sprouts fill the garden, and two curious visitors are inspecting every leaf. A grey and white Siberian Husky has her nose down by a patch of herbs, her pale eyes bright, while a chestnut horse stretches its long neck over the bed beside her. A wooden fence, a watering can and a garden shed sit in the background. The horse's whiskers brush a leafy stem while the husky sniffs the soil, and neither one seems the slightest bit hurried or guilty.
A vegetable garden can be tempting for pets, but not everything in it is safe. Onions, garlic, grapes and chives are harmful to dogs, and some plants, such as rhubarb leaves or nightshade family leaves, can be toxic to horses. Garden fertilizers and slug bait are also dangerous. If your pet eats something suspicious, call your vet.
Siberian Huskies are curious, clever dogs with a strong sense of adventure. They need lots of exercise and enjoy exploring, and a garden is a sensory feast for them. A fenced yard with safe digging spots and clear boundaries can help keep a busy husky entertained and the vegetables intact.
For now, the two explorers move slowly through the greenery. A quiet garden is a lovely place to share a day. Some gardens are for sharing.
