Both Napped Right in the Middle of the Sunbeam
The floorboards are warm, the light is golden, and two sleepers have stretched out in the exact middle of the sunbeam. A tortoiseshell cat lies on her stomach with her chin on the wood, her swirled coat of black, copper and brown looking like a quilt. Beside her, a tan puppy rests his face on the floor with a soft frown of contentment, his eyes tightly shut. A wicker basket of toys, a grey slipper, a canvas tote and a knitted blanket are scattered nearby, all a little out of focus. Everything about the scene says it is a slow weekend morning.
Cats are masters of finding sunshine, and they can move around a room all day to follow it. Basking helps them feel warm and cozy, and many cats also seem to enjoy the quiet that comes with it. Puppies often copy this habit. On very hot days, make sure your pets have shade and fresh water as well, because even a pleasant sunny patch can turn too warm. A sunny floor spot is a nice place for gentle play, but it is also a good reminder that every animal needs a cool corner to retreat to.
The sunbeam will move across the room soon enough. Until it does, these two have no plans beyond staying right where they are.
