Two Sleepy Faces Popped Out of the Quilt at the Same Moment
The quilt is pulled up like a tent, and two faces have just popped out to see what the morning looks like. A black cat with glowing yellow-green eyes lies with her chin at the edge of the blanket, her whiskers fanned out and her gaze calm. Next to her, a golden puppy rests his head on the cloth with sleepy blue-brown eyes and a pink nose, still not quite awake. The sage and cream checked quilt is soft and well worn. Behind them, a wicker basket of laundry, a pair of slippers, wooden blocks and a plush elephant toy sit in a patch of sun.
Cats and dogs often love to burrow under blankets, because it creates a warm, enclosed place that feels safe. Black cats, which sometimes get overlooked in shelters because of old superstitions, are every bit as affectionate and playful as any other color. A quilt can be a wonderful bed for pets, but it should be washable, and you should make sure there are no loose threads or buttons that could get chewed or swallowed. If you sleep with pets on the bed, remember that very small puppies can get stuck or fall, so a low, safe sleeping space is a good idea.
Mornings are always better when you wake up beside a friend. Today, nobody is in a rush to leave the quilt behind.
