The Silver Cat Looked Back to Make Sure the Puppy Was Following
Early light slants across a gravel path beside a clapboard house, and a silver Norwegian Forest Cat pauses mid-stride to look back. Her long grey coat is streaked with white, her plumed tail trails behind her and her green eyes are steady. Just in front of the camera, a fluffy tan puppy with round, droopy ears follows the trail, his dark nose low and his expression a mix of eager and unsure. Rubber boots, a coiled green hose, a stack of firewood and big pots of herbs line the walkway, giving the little path a lived-in, country feel.
Norwegian Forest Cats come from a cold climate and have a thick double coat, tufted ears and a sturdy build. They are known for being gentle, confident climbers who tend to be friendly with people and other pets. The long coat sheds heavily in spring, so regular brushing is a big help. Puppies often follow an older, calmer animal around, and a confident cat can be a good role model. On any walk, though, keep the puppy on a leash or in a fenced area, and keep the cat's world safe by keeping hoses, tools and chemicals tucked away.
The cat glances back as if to say, are you coming? The puppy, of course, is coming. He would follow her anywhere along this path.
