The Samoyed and the Bunny Watched the Pond Without Saying a Word
The pond is still, and two friends have settled on the bank to look at it. A fluffy white Samoyed with his famous smiling face is turned slightly away, gazing across the water with calm eyes, and tucked against his chest, a small brown bunny sits with her ears upright. Reeds, green trees and a patch of yellow leaves frame the view, and the late-day light is soft and warm.
Samoyeds were bred to herd reindeer and pull sleds in Siberia, and their thick white coat is built for the cold. They are friendly, social and talkative, and they need lots of exercise and company. The coat sheds heavily and needs frequent brushing. They tend to be gentle with their families and love to be part of everything.
Ponds look peaceful but can pose risks for pets. Water may contain algae, bacteria or parasites, and banks can be slippery. It is a good idea to keep dogs from drinking pond water and to watch near the edge. Rabbits should stay well away from water, since they can chill quickly. If your pet swims, rinse and dry them afterward.
They are not doing anything at all, which is the best part. Pip leans against her fluffy friend as if he were a cloud, and the Samoyed seems perfectly content to be one.
