The Jack Russell Decided the Bunny Needed a Quick Face Wash
The terrier is taking his grooming duties very seriously. A tricolor Jack Russell with a brown patch over one eye leans down with his tongue out and gives a small brown bunny a gentle lick on the face, and the bunny sits calmly with her ears up. They are on a soft knit blanket on a sofa, and behind them are a few plants, a basket and a pair of slippers.
Dogs often lick animals they feel close to. In a pack, licking is a way to show care and bond, and a friendly terrier might extend it to a smaller friend. Still, a rabbit's fur is delicate, and licking can make her damp and chilled, so it is best to keep such moments short and gentle.
Jack Russell Terriers are bold, energetic dogs who were bred to hunt small animals, so they need extra training and supervision around rabbits. A dog with that sort of background may have a strong chase instinct, and care is needed. If your terrier is calm and gentle, short supervised visits are best, and your vet can offer advice.
The licking looks sweet, and Pip seems to be tolerating it with great dignity. It is hard to say who is more surprised by the friendship. Whatever the terrier was planning, it clearly involved a lot of gentleness today.
