A Weimaraner Lay Perfectly Still While a Bunny Hopped on Board

AI imageweimaranerbunnypatience

The Weimaraner is lying very still on the rug, and for good reason. A small brown bunny has hopped onto her back and is sitting upright right on top of her shoulder blades, her ears alert. The dog's silver-gray head rests flat on the carpet, her eyes calm and patient. A scattering of toys, a throw blanket and a window appear behind them in the quiet room.

Weimaraners are athletic, intelligent dogs that need plenty of exercise and attention. They are known for their loyalty and can be very gentle with the animals and people they know. Training and early socialization help them learn how to behave around smaller pets, and a dog like this one that can lie still is showing excellent self-control.

Rabbits like to explore, and a warm, still dog is a very interesting hill. Still, climbing on a dog should be supervised, as a sudden movement could startle one of them. If you are introducing a dog and a rabbit, reward the dog for staying calm and let the rabbit approach on her own terms. Talk to your vet or a trainer if you need help.

It is a very patient pose, and a very good lesson in trust. Pip looks pleased with her view from above. Nobody on that rug is in any hurry to move, and the afternoon is long.
