The Shiba Sat at the Rainy Window, and Someone Lined Up Beside Him

The rain has been falling all afternoon, and the windowsill has become the best seat in the house. A red Shiba Inu with pointed ears and a thoughtful, slightly serious face rests beside the glass, gazing out, and lined up along the sill next to him is a row of fluffy yellow ducklings, all turned toward the same wet view. Raindrops are sliding down the panes, and the trees outside are soft and gray.

Shiba Inus are small, independent dogs from Japan with a fox-like look and a strong, proud personality. They are clean, quick and curious, but they can also be stubborn, so patient training and good fencing are important. Shibas often enjoy watching the world from a window, which gives them mental stimulation on days when it is too wet to go out.

Baby ducklings are fluffy and adorable, but they are also very delicate. They need warmth, a clean, dry space and the right food, and they should not be left out in cold rain without a way to warm up. Their natural waterproofing is not fully developed when they are tiny, so a wet duckling can chill quickly. If you are ever caring for ducklings, a vet or a local waterfowl expert can give advice.

Dogs and ducklings share one big thing, which is a love of looking out of windows on a rainy day. For now, all of them seem happy to stay in the warm and dry and let the weather do its thing.
