A Giant Saint Bernard Gave a Small Lamb a Gentle Face Wash
A giant red and white Saint Bernard bends down to give a small lamb a gentle lick on the face. Dumpling holds very still with her eyes half closed and ears flat, clearly enjoying it. Toys are scattered across the floor behind them, including a stuffed bunny and a little wooden truck, and a couch and basket sit in the background. The dog's brown face is huge compared to the lamb's, but his eyes are soft and kind. It's a tender moment between very different animals. A stuffed bunny sits inches from the lamb's hooves, forgotten.
Saint Bernards are famously gentle giants, originally bred in the Swiss Alps for rescue work. They are patient, sweet and usually very good with children and other animals. Because of their huge size, they need plenty of space, training and a sturdy diet that a vet can help plan. They tend to drool and shed, and they overheat easily, so a cool spot and water are important. Dogs lick as a sign of affection and sometimes to groom friends, which is a normal behavior. A gentle dog can be a wonderful companion, though large dogs and little lambs always need supervision. Let big dogs approach small animals slowly and calmly.
It's a quiet bath, and the lamb seems to love it. It's a very gentle way to start the day.
