The Porch Steps Had Two Small Regulars Waiting for Something
On a gray porch step flecked with leaves, a cream Chihuahua and a small brown bunny sit shoulder to shoulder like two neighbors on a front stoop. The Chihuahua's big, round eyes look off to the side, her ears pointed and tall, while the bunny sits with her paws together and her own ears angled sharply. A rubber boot, a flower pot, and a rake lean nearby, giving the scene a lived-in, homey feel.
Chihuahuas are the smallest of dog breeds, but many have big personalities, strong loyalty, and a tendency to bond with one person or one friend. Their tiny size means they can be fragile, so supervise any play with other animals and avoid rough handling. A Chihuahua and a rabbit are close in size, which can actually make for a comfortable match. Both feel the cold easily, so keep porch time to mild days and give both a warm place to go inside. Rabbits are also easily startled by sudden noises, so a quiet porch is a good spot for a calm afternoon sit.
They look like they're waiting for something, perhaps the mailman, perhaps just the sun to come out from behind a cloud. Whatever it is, they are doing it together. The sense of ease between them is the best part. There is no hurry on a porch step, and a friend makes the waiting nicer.
