The Beagle Led the Way, and the Horse Followed Right Behind
A little Beagle trots ahead on a gravel path with her tail held high like a flag, and a chestnut horse follows right behind her. Copper wears his leather halter and walks carefully through the doorway, ears forward and eyes on the leader. Boots, bags and jackets hang near the door, and a lamp glows in the cozy room inside. It looks like a very ordinary evening, with a very unusual guest.
Beagles are scent hounds, which means they live by their nose and will happily follow an interesting trail. That is why they make cheerful walking partners but need a leash or a secure fence, since a Beagle on a scent can forget everything else. They are friendly, curious dogs that enjoy company, and they usually get along well with other animals. Beagles also love food, so treats should be measured and exercise kept regular to help maintain a healthy weight. If you walk a dog near a large animal, keep the pace slow and leave plenty of space between them. A loose lead and a calm attitude make the walk better for everyone.
The Beagle has her nose in the air, and the horse trusts her to know where they are going. Maybe the destination is dinner, maybe a nap, or maybe just the next interesting smell. Either way, they are headed there together, which is the best part.
