This Jack-o'-Lantern Doesn't Need a Candle. Something Brighter Is Inside.
This jack-o'-lantern does not need a candle, because it already has something much brighter inside. A blue-grey Russian Blue kitten sits snugly within a big carved pumpkin, peering out through the wide, jagged opening of its grin. Its plush silver coat contrasts beautifully with the bright orange rind, and its pale green eyes look out with gentle curiosity. Two little paws rest on the pumpkin's carved teeth. Around it, a doormat, a pair of hiking boots, a plaid blanket, potted dried flowers, and dried corn hanging on the wall complete the porch scene.
Russian Blues are known for their dense, silvery-blue coats, green eyes, and quiet, gentle personalities. They tend to be a bit reserved with strangers but very affectionate with their families. Hollowed-out pumpkins are fine as a quick and supervised photo spot, but they are not ideal hangouts. Carved pumpkins can grow mold quickly, and the cut edges can be sharp. Most importantly, never leave a lit candle in a pumpkin that pets can reach. Battery-powered lights are a safer way to make a jack-o'-lantern glow in a home with curious cats.
Of all the pumpkins on the porch, this one wins for best surprise. It may not light up the night, but it certainly lights up the porch with plenty of cuteness to spare for every visitor who walks by.
