Chihuahuas are the smallest dog breed, and puppies are especially delicate, so warmth and gentle handling are important. They often enjoy burrowing into blankets, since small bodies lose heat quickly. A cozy spot near the fireplace is nice, but keep him at a safe distance from any open flame or hot surface, and use a screen. Candles on the mantel should be out of reach as well, and never left burning unattended. Stockings are fun, but be careful about what goes in them. Chocolate, candy and small toys that can be swallowed are best kept away from a puppy. Treats designed for dogs are a safe choice. Small puppies also need regular meals, so ask your vet about a feeding schedule. A soft bed in a draft-free corner will keep him comfortable overnight too.

The stockings are waiting for morning, and so is the puppy. For now, dreams are the only thing on the schedule.
