A Basset Puppy in a Santa Hat Had the Saddest, Sweetest Eyes

AI imagebasset hound puppychristmassanta hat

Long ears hanging beneath the red Santa hat, a tricolor Basset Hound puppy looks out with eyes as sad and sweet as a country song. He sits on a cream-colored cable-knit blanket, and behind him a stone fireplace with a pine garland and plaid ribbon glows in the winter light. Gifts, candles and a thermos sit on the hearth. The hat is a bit too big, which only adds to the charm.

Basset Hound puppies are famous for their long ears and gentle, easygoing natures. They are sociable, love being with their people and can be a little stubborn when they catch an interesting scent. A hat can be a fun photo prop, but keep it brief, and take it off if he seems bothered. Make sure the elastic or strap is not tight around his chin or neck. By the fireplace, keep a safe distance from flames and use a fireplace screen. Candles on the hearth should be out of paw's reach. A Basset's long ears can also drag in food bowls or near heat, so keep an eye out. Regular ear cleaning is important, and your vet can show you the right way. Short photo moments and a lot of cuddles keep a puppy happy.

The fire crackles and the hat sits a little crooked. Santa could not ask for a sweeter helper.
