A Sleepy Birman Kitten Made a Nest in a Red Knit Blanket
The red knit blanket has been shaped into a nest, and a Birman kitten is curled up inside it, sound asleep. Her cream coat with its dark ears and face stands out against the bright wool, and one white paw tucks under her chin. The tree behind her glows with gold ornaments and tiny lights, with a basket of plaid blankets, a few wrapped gifts and a glass of water scattered around the floor.
Kittens love warm, soft places, and a thick knit blanket is about as good as it gets. Cats prefer to sleep somewhere that feels cozy and secure, and they can sleep for many hours a day, kittens most of all, since growing takes plenty of energy. If you make a bed for your cat near the tree, pick a spot away from cords and lights, and watch for loose threads in knitted blankets that claws can catch on. Offering a regular bed with a fleece liner gives the same comfort with less risk.
She looks so content that nobody would want to wake her. Let's call her Cocoa. The tree lights twinkle softly above while she dreams about whatever kittens dream about, probably chasing something shiny. When she wakes, the blanket will be rumpled and the rest of the day full of play. Few things say cozy like a sleeping kitten in a pile of warm yarn beside the glowing tree.
