A Birman Kitten Meets a Snowman and Quietly Sizes Him Up
The snowman has a carrot nose and two stick arms, and next to him sits a fluffy seal point Birman kitten with deep blue eyes and a cream coat that blends with the snow. Her dark paws and mask stand out like pencil marks against all the white. The front steps of a house, a wreath on the door and a flowerpot full of snow make a quiet backdrop for the pair.
Birmans are a medium-to-long haired breed known for their blue eyes, white paws and gentle, sociable personalities. Their silky coat is attractive in snow, but kittens still get cold quickly, since their bodies are small and they haven't built up much fat or insulation. Even a fluffy cat shouldn't stay outside long in winter, so a brief photo stop followed by a warm blanket and a towel to dry the paws is the way to go. Road salt and ice melt can irritate paws and be harmful if licked, so wipe feet after any outdoor visit.
We'll call her Snowdrop. She studies her new neighbor with polite curiosity, deciding whether he's a friend or a very quiet stranger. He doesn't say a word, and she seems to like that. After a short visit she'll head back inside to thaw on a lap. It's a tiny moment of winter friendship between a cat and a very patient snowman.
