A Little Ghost and a Witch Walked Past the Window. Someone Inside Was Watching.
Out on the porch next door, a small ghost in a white sheet and a witch in a pointed hat are making their way past glowing jack-o'-lanterns with candy buckets in hand. Inside, perched on a chipped white windowsill, a warm cinnamon-colored kitten has the best seat in the house. His big ears are swiveled toward the glass, his golden eyes are narrowed with intense focus, and his ticked coat glows in the soft lamplight. A pot of mums sits on the neighbor's steps, and a leafy houseplant shares the sill beside him.
His ticked, warm-toned coat is the classic look of the Abyssinian, one of the oldest-known cat breeds. Each hair is banded with several colors, which gives the coat its shimmering, wild-looking effect. Abyssinians are famous for being active, curious, and intelligent, and they love to be up high where they can survey everything going on. They're often described as busy cats who want to be involved in every household activity. A sunny window perch, cat trees, and lots of interactive play suit them well. On a busy night like Halloween, watching the action from a secure window is a great way for an inquisitive cat to join the fun without any risk of slipping out the door.
The trick-or-treaters probably have no idea they're being so carefully observed. This little one won't miss a single costume all evening.
Some of us hand out candy on Halloween. Others prefer to supervise from the window.
