A Tiny Black Kitten Sleeps Like a Comma in a Red Blanket
The red blanket is arranged in a loose, rumpled ring, and in the center sleeps a tiny black kitten, curled up like a comma. Her face is tucked against her paws, her eyes are shut and her glossy fur looks like velvet against the bright wool. The Christmas tree beside her has wooden stars, pine cones and soft lights, and the room is quiet, with only a laundry basket and a couch in the background.
Kittens sleep a great deal, often more than adult cats, because they are growing quickly and need lots of rest. A soft, warm spot like a blanket makes them feel secure, and they often choose places near family activity but out of the way. A knitted blanket is cozy, but loose loops can snag small claws, so it helps to check. Keep any bedding away from tree cords, lights and water. If your kitten sleeps heavily and eats well, that's usually a sign of healthy growth, and your vet can answer any questions.
We'll call her Ink. She looks so peaceful that it's tempting to whisper. The tree glows above her, the room is still and the world seems to have slowed down. When she wakes, she'll stretch, blink and probably find something shiny to chase. It's a small, gentle holiday scene, the sort of picture that makes you want to lower your voice and let a very small sleeper rest a little longer.
