Someone Brought the Autumn Leaves Indoors, and the Orange Tabby Couldn't Be Happier

AI imageorange tabbyhalloweenautumn leaves

Someone brought the outdoors in, and an orange tabby could not be happier about it. A thick drift of crunchy maple leaves covers the entryway floor, and the cat is crouched right in the middle, one paw stretched out, eyes narrowed and whiskers forward, clearly about to pounce on something only he can see. Big orange pumpkins and a speckled green one line the wall beside him. Behind him, a bench holds folded jeans, a potted plant, and a strand of fairy lights, while keys and a small pumpkin ornament hang near the front door.

Cats love crunchy leaves for the same reason they love crinkle balls and paper bags. The rustling sound and unpredictable movement trigger their natural hunting instincts, and stalking and pouncing is excellent exercise and mental enrichment. Indoor play that mimics hunting, with a stalk, a chase, a catch, and then a meal or treat, can help cats feel satisfied and calmer. If you bring leaves inside, give them a shake first, since outdoor debris can carry insects, ticks, or mold. Crinkly paper, cardboard boxes, and wand toys with feathers are easy, safe ways to recreate the fun all year round.

This orange hunter has clearly found his favorite part of fall. The pumpkins may be for decoration, but the leaves are definitely for him. Fall really is the best season for a cat with a good imagination.
