Maple Sat Among the Presents Like He Was Counting Them
Under a tree strung with warm lights and gold ornaments, a curly apricot puppy sits in a nest of gifts. The presents are wrapped in plain brown paper with twine and little sprigs of pine, and the puppy sits right in front of them with an earnest, slightly puzzled face, as if he is counting. A soft chair with a cream throw and a mug sits in the background, and the room glows with early evening light.
Goldendoodles are a mix of Golden Retriever and Poodle, and many of them inherit a friendly, people-loving nature along with a fluffy coat that needs regular brushing. Because every doodle can look a bit different, it is smart to plan for a coat that mats easily, especially behind the ears and under the legs. A comb through a few times a week keeps things tidy. They also tend to be energetic and eager to learn, which makes the puppy months a good time for gentle training and plenty of social visits.
A Christmas tree can be a lot for a puppy, though. Tinsel, glass ornaments, and tree water are things to keep out of reach, and a sturdy gate or a tree skirt can help. This fellow, whom we will call Maple, seems to understand the rules so far. He sits politely, ears relaxed, while the wrapped boxes wait for morning. Perhaps he believes the biggest one is for him, and honestly, that is a very good guess.
