Casper Peeked Out From Behind the Tombstones and Stole the Show
Peering around the edge of a stone-gray tombstone, a tiny white kitten shows half her face and one pink-lined ear. Her blue-grey eyes are wide and curious, and her body is still tucked behind the cross-shaped marker. The lawn behind her is scattered with fallen leaves, a little carved pumpkin sits in the grass, and a house and fence are just visible in the background. It is the gentlest graveyard in the neighborhood.
Cats are natural hiders and peekers, and using cover to watch the world is a way to feel safe while still being curious. A kitten who peeks around corners is checking out a new thing from a position where she can retreat. This is healthy, normal behavior, and it helps to let a shy kitten approach new objects at her own pace. White cats with blue eyes can sometimes have hearing differences, so a vet can check hearing and discuss sun protection for pink ears if she spends time outdoors.
Yard decorations can include hidden hazards, like fake cobwebs that tangle, small plastic pieces that can be swallowed, and extension cords. Keep an eye on a kitten who explores a decorated yard, and never leave her unattended outside. We will call this little explorer Casper, because of her white coat. She is not afraid of anything here. She is simply curious about the stones, and she looks like the smallest and sweetest ghost in the yard, peeking around the edge to see who is coming.
