The Kitten Was Wrapped Up Right Next to a Fresh Pumpkin Pie

Only a small face peeks out of a cozy bundle of orange wool. A tiny calico kitten has been wrapped up on the kitchen counter, her eyes dark and thoughtful, and her white and orange and black patches blending with the blanket. Right beside her sits a golden pumpkin pie with a crinkled crust, and behind them a towel, a window, and the soft glow of afternoon light fill the room. It is the cutest burrito in the house.

Kittens love being wrapped up because snug spaces make them feel safe and warm. Their small bodies lose heat quickly, so soft bedding is important. Wrapping a kitten gently in a blanket is fine for a short moment, but she should always be able to get out, and she should never be bundled tightly or left alone in a pile of fabric where she might be unable to breathe freely.

Counters are another matter. Kitchen counters hold hot things, sharp tools, and foods that are not good for cats, so try to keep a young cat off them when cooking. Pumpkin pie has sugar, cream, and spices that are not meant for pets, so keep it covered. Calico cats are almost always female, and many are full of personality. We will call this one Maple Leaf. She is settled in her blanket, warm and calm, close to the pie but not tempted. For a kitten, being cozy is a treat of its own.
