Hazel Tried On the Witch Hat and Took Her Magic Very Seriously
Perched on a hay bale at dusk, a round-faced blue-grey kitten wears a tiny black witch hat that is slightly too big and tilts to one side. Her golden-green eyes are wide, her paws are placed carefully on the straw, and her plush coat looks like velvet in the lamplight. Behind her, a porch light glows, a stack of hay and small pumpkins sit near the steps, and a black bag and blanket wait by the door.
British Shorthair kittens have dense, plush coats, round heads, and big round eyes. They tend to grow into calm, easygoing cats that are less likely to be climbers and more likely to be sofa companions. They mature slowly, often taking three to five years to reach full size. A balanced diet and regular play help keep them at a healthy weight as they grow.
For a costume, the hat should be very light and stay off her eyes, and the kitten should be supervised the whole time. Take it off if she shakes it, freezes, or tries to chew it. Hay can also irritate the nose, and a kitten outdoors at night should be held or watched closely. We will call this young sorceress Hazel. She has a serious face, as if she is thinking about her first spell. Perhaps it is a spell to make the treats appear, which would be the best kind of magic.
