A Miniature Schnauzer Climbs Inside the Jack-o'-Lantern
The pumpkin has been carved with a toothy grin and triangle eyes, and instead of a candle, it holds a fuzzy surprise. A black and silver Miniature Schnauzer has squeezed in and now peeks over the rim, his bushy gray eyebrows and beard framing a thoughtful face. Pumpkin seeds and bits of rind are scattered over the counter, and in the background a sofa, some building blocks and a pale green towel suggest the rest of the family is busy elsewhere.
Miniature Schnauzers are sturdy, alert terriers known for their distinctive eyebrows and beard. They are often lively and devoted, and they like to stay close to their people. Their wiry coat usually needs regular grooming, and many are good watchdogs. As with most terriers, they like to have a job, so games and short training sessions are a good way to use their energy.
Pumpkin season has a few pet tips. Plain pumpkin flesh is generally considered safe for dogs in small amounts, but a lot can upset the stomach, and carved pumpkins left out can grow mold, which is not safe to eat. Candles should never be put inside a pumpkin where a dog can reach it, and battery-powered lights are a safer choice.
We will call this one Bristle. He seems to think the pumpkin is the perfect size for a quick hide-and-seek, and he has the proud look of a dog who won. The jack-o'-lantern has never had such a good-looking glow.
