A Little White Maltese Waits Under the Glow of Orange Lights
Orange string lights glow along the porch beam, a few pumpkins flicker with small lights and dry leaves have blown across the wooden steps. In the middle of it all sits a little white Maltese, with a cloud of silky fur and two dark, shiny eyes turned toward the viewer. His head is tilted just slightly, as if he is waiting for the first trick-or-treater, and his paws are neatly together in front of him.
Maltese dogs are small, gentle companions that have long been valued for their sweet nature. Their long, silky white coat is lovely but needs regular brushing to prevent tangles, and many owners choose a shorter trim for easier care. They tend to love attention and can be playful, but small dogs like this need gentle handling and protection from larger crowds and fast-moving feet.
Halloween evening can be a lot for a dog, so a few precautions help. Keep string lights and cords out of chewing range, keep candles and glowing pumpkins on a stable surface, and make sure your dog wears a collar with ID in case the door opens and he slips out. A calm indoor space with water and a favorite toy gives a nervous dog a place to relax.
We will call him Cotton, and he looks like a tiny white ghost who forgot to haunt anyone. He is polite, quiet and glowing in the lights. It is a lovely, gentle way to wait for the night to begin.
