A Jack Russell Puppy Takes Over the Sidewalk in a Dinosaur Hood
Green felt spikes trace a line over his hood and down his back, and a tricolor Jack Russell Terrier puppy sits inside the costume with a sweet, slightly puzzled look. His scruffy white face has dark brown patches around the eyes, and one ear flops over while the other peeks out. He sits on a gray sidewalk scattered with leaves, with a blue front door, a jack-o'-lantern and a pile of corn stalks behind him.
Jack Russell Terriers are small, tough and energetic dogs, bred long ago for working with hunters. Puppies of this type are quick and curious, and they need lots of exercise and mental games to keep them busy. Training and play are essential, since a bored terrier can find ways to entertain itself. They are usually loyal, funny companions for active families.
Dinosaur costumes with spikes and hoods are fun, but a puppy may feel hot or confused in one. Keep the hood loose so it does not cover his eyes, and check that the spikes do not poke him when he sits. Short sessions, with treats, make dressing up pleasant. For a night walk, a reflective collar or a light on his leash helps keep him visible near streets.
We will call him Rex Junior. He is the smallest dinosaur on the street, and he certainly has the energy of a much larger one. The fierce roar may be on its way, but for now he is simply being adorable on the sidewalk.
