A German Shepherd Puppy Studies a Porch Full of Gourds
Big ears that have not quite learned to stand yet, a soft black and tan coat and a thoughtful gaze make this German Shepherd puppy hard to look away from. He sits on a weathered board surrounded by speckled green and orange gourds, pale blue pumpkins and dry corn stalks with golden ears of corn. A blue watering can, a pair of work gloves and a porch full of autumn color form the background.
German Shepherd puppies are smart and eager to please, and they grow quickly into strong, athletic adults. Their ears often start floppy and stand up gradually during the first months. They need early socialization, steady training and daily exercise, and they are known for devotion to their families. Because large breeds grow fast, a vet can recommend a diet that supports healthy bones and joints.
Decorative corn, husks and gourds are not safe snacks. Dried corn cobs can cause blockages if swallowed, and some gourds are bitter and may upset a puppy's stomach. When a puppy is exploring a display like this, it is best to watch closely and to keep a chew toy handy for redirection. Spending time on short, positive training sessions around new objects builds confidence.
We will call him Scout. He is exploring his first fall with great seriousness, and the gourds are very interesting. One day he will be a grand guardian, but today he is simply an adorable and curious puppy on a porch.
