The Candy Bag Went Missing, and the Culprit Walked Away Quite Slowly

AI imagebritish shorthairhalloweencandy

Caught mid-getaway, a silver tabby kitten stands in a sunlit hallway with a crinkly bag of wrapped candy clamped in her mouth. The orange and yellow wrappers dangle from her whiskers, and her amber eyes stare off to one side as if she is checking whether anyone saw her. A pumpkin, a basket and a pair of shoes wait behind her, and the golden light on the wall shows the hour.

Halloween candy can be a real danger for pets. Chocolate is toxic to cats and dogs, and sugar-free candy can contain xylitol, which is harmful. Wrappers, too, can be swallowed and cause blockages. If you think your cat has eaten any candy or wrapper, call your vet right away. The best prevention is to keep bowls and bags well out of reach, in a closed cabinet or a high shelf, especially during trick-or-treat evenings. Kittens are curious and quick, and the crinkle of cellophane is irresistible, so give her a safe crinkle toy of her own and play with her when the candy comes out.

This little bandit is surely proud of her haul. She carries it with great determination, though the bag is nearly as big as her head. Nobody could stay cross for long about a face this cute, and the candy was probably going to be shared anyway.
