One Glass Ornament Hung Low, and the Cocker Spaniel Had Noticed

AI imagecocker spanielchristmasornament

Curls glossy and ears long, a black Cocker Spaniel named Ebony gazes upward at a clear glass ornament dangling from the lowest branch of the tree. Her nose is raised, her soft eyes follow the sparkle and a few twinkle lights glint beside her. The living room behind her holds a couch with a yellow blanket, stuffed toys, a pair of slippers and golden light spilling through the window.

Low-hanging ornaments are a temptation for any dog, and glass ones are the most hazardous, since they can break into sharp pieces. A better plan is to hang unbreakable decorations on the bottom third of the tree and save breakable ones for the top. Cocker Spaniels are friendly, gentle dogs with very expressive eyes, and they often use those eyes to get what they want. Their long ears can pick up debris, and tree needles or tinsel can catch in their fur, so check them after tree time. Give her a safe toy to carry as a swap, and praise her for leaving the ornaments alone. If a piece of glass breaks, call your vet right away if she might have swallowed any.

Ebony is just looking, and her gaze is full of wonder. She has not made a move yet, and that is a very good sign. Even so, there is a glint in her eye that says she has considered it.
