She Sat Next to the Cocoa and Studied the Marshmallows Closely
The cocoa is hot, the marshmallows are floating, and a cream Exotic Shorthair has parked herself right beside the mug. She sits with her round face turned slightly aside, amber eyes narrowed in a thoughtful look, and her whiskers fan out in every direction. A white blanket spills over the table edge beneath her, and a sprig of evergreen lies close by. Across the room a plaid pillow rests on the sofa and a lit tree glows in the window light, giving the whole scene a soft, sleepy warmth.
Exotic Shorthairs have the plush, flat-faced look of a Persian but with an easier-care short coat, and most are quiet, sweet-natured cats who like to stay close to their people. Because of that flat face, they may need a little extra help keeping their eyes clean. As for the cocoa, chocolate is toxic to cats and dogs, and the sugar and sweeteners in a mug of hot chocolate are no good for them either. Keep mugs away from the table edge, wash spills promptly, and if your pet laps any up, call your vet for advice rather than waiting.
She seems to be making a cautious study of the mug rather than a plan of attack, and that is probably the safest way to keep the peace. A cat this calm can make any room feel cozier, even one with a mug of cocoa on the table.
