A Chocolate Lab Found the Softest Pillow in the Room: Gift Wrap
Christmas morning has worn out a chocolate brown Labrador Retriever. He is stretched across the floor with his heavy head resting on a crumpled heap of wrapping paper, printed with holly, snowflakes, and red plaid. His eyes are closed, his ears hang soft and loose, and a few white tissue sheets are tangled under his chin. Behind him, empty boxes, a gift basket, and a green blanket show that the unwrapping is long finished.
Labradors are famous for their friendly, easygoing nature and their love of family, and many will happily nap in the middle of whatever is happening. They are also famous for their appetite and their habit of chewing things. That makes the wrapping paper pile worth a second look. Small bits of paper are not usually a problem, but ribbons, tape, foil, string, and tissue stuck with glue can cause trouble if swallowed. Gift tags and bows can also be tempting. Pick up the long and stringy things first, and keep any food gifts, especially chocolate or anything with xylitol, well out of reach. If your dog does eat something strange, call your vet.
Active breeds like this one also need a good walk after the excitement, since a dog who has been indoors all morning may want to stretch his legs when he wakes.
For now, though, the paper makes a fine pillow, and the day can wait.
